Movie Review: Would You Rather (2012)

“Would You Rather” has been popping up on my should get round to watching list for a while. So 31 days of horror gave me an excuse to watch it.

Iris is looking after her brother as her parents have both died. He is sick and needs a transplant. This obviously has put financial pressure on them and she is struggling to get a job and has given up school/university. So when a doctor suggests a meeting to her with someone who can help with the costs she jumps at the chance. She meets Mr Lambrick who invites her to a dinner party where she has the chance of winning all the money and help with a transplant she needs. With some trepidation she agrees. At the dinner party she meets a number of different people from different backgrounds and different reasons for being there (although we don’t really find out what their motivation is).

The dinner party is a gruesome game of Would You Rather. They get the option at the beginning to leave but once they choose not to, it becomes apparent that if they fail they won’t leave alive.

This is another torture porn movie, not as gruesome or as inventive as the likes of SAW and Hostel. The deaths were fairly gory but some parts flagged and dragged on. There was a predictable twist at the end that the boy called on. Nothing new here and I’m not a fan of this genre of movie anyway.

3/5. A sadistic dinner party for torture porn fans, not for me. Nothing special.

About thewytchinghourblog

I'm a horror loving librarian with the need to share reviews of everything horror, gore and spooky related. I'm an avid reader of books, mainly horror, definitely supernatural. I'm a pagan and like to define myself as an eclectic witch. Halloween/Samhain is my favourite time of year from everything pumpkin spiced, the scent of decay and the veil between worlds thinning. So, here we are to share all things blood splattered, things that go bump in the night and crawl out of the darkness.
