Movie Review: Slaughterhouse Rulez (2018)

Slaugherhouse Rulez is a 2018 horror-comedy starring Simon Pegg, Micheal Sheen and Nick Frost. A northern boy comes to boarding school, which is as horrific if you’d expect. Bullying is rife and he soon comes under the gaze of the schools main bully. But he has bigger problems. The school grounds are now the site of fracking works and a sinkhole opens in the woods but there is more than just gas down there. It soon becomes a battle for survival against the creatures that come from the ground.

This is a fun movie, a rollicking good show, very British indeed. Me and the hubby enjoyed it a lot. It has to be seen for what it is, which is essentially a comedy and while it doesn’t stand up to Shaun of the Dead, it’s still lots of fun. It took a while to get going to the horror part and addresses issues such as bullying in schools and current concerns of fracking. (As an aside the UK’s only fracking side in Lancashire caused two earthquakes near Blackpool this year.)

3.5/5 Lots of fun for this horror-comedy and some bloody good gore. I doubt it’ll scare you but maybe entertain you with some laughs included. My hubby says “I bloody enjoyed it, it’s a fantastic little romp especially if you’re a fan of Simon Pegg and company”.

  1. *in a sing-song voice* Adding this to my To-Be-Watched list! Sounds right up my alley, and sometimes it’s nice to put a little comedy in horror.
